Course Content

Module I – Understanding Rh Factor and Blood Types
At the end of the module the participants will be able to Discuss red blood cell antigens and their classification system Define Rh factor and blood group system and explain significance of Rh factor in blood transfusions and pregnancy. Identify different blood types and describe their compatibility with Rh factor

Module II – Pathophysiology of Rh Disease
Learning Objectives: Describe the process of Rh sensitization and its consequences during pregnancy. Explain the immune response involved in Rh disease and its effects on the fetus. Explain the Hemolytic disease of fetus and newborn (HDFN), clinical effects, and prevention. History of HDFN.

Module III – Screening, Diagnosis and Management
At the end of the module the participants will be able to Discuss the methods used for screening and diagnosing Rh disease during pregnancy. Interpret laboratory tests such as indirect Coombs test and antibody titers in the context of Rh disease.

Module IV – Prevention Strategies
Discuss RhD immunoglobulin Evaluate the effectiveness of Rh immunoglobulin in preventing Rh sensitization. Discuss the indications for RhD immunogloubulin administration and its timing during pregnancy and after childbirth

Module V – Neonatal Rh Disease
Describe the clinical manifestations and complications of Rh disease in newborns. Discuss the management of neonatal Rh disease, including monitoring and treatment approaches.

Module VI – Future Directions and Advocacy
Public Health Implications and Education: At the end of the module the participants will be able to Discuss the importance of Rh disease awareness and education in preventing sensitization and managing affected pregnancies.
